NICU Awareness Month: Raising Awareness and Supporting Families

Every year, NICU Awareness Month provides an opportunity to shine a light on the realities of neonatal care and the experiences of the babies and families who face it.
1 in 7 babies born in the UK will need specialist neonatal care. For many families, a neonatal stay can be unexpected and overwhelming, bringing with it uncertainty, long days on the unit, and a very different start to parenthood than they had imagined.
While neonatal units provide life-saving care for babies, the experience affects the whole family. Parents often find themselves balancing hope, worry and exhaustion while learning to navigate a new and unfamiliar world. That’s why raising awareness is so important. The more people understand the neonatal journey, the more support families can receive, both during their baby’s stay and after they leave the unit.
At Tiny Lives, we’re proud to support neonatal families across North East and North Cumbria. From providing emotional, practical and financial support to funding equipment, facilities and projects that improve neonatal care, we’re here to help families every step of the way.
Throughout NICU Awareness Month, we’ll be sharing stories, raising awareness and celebrating the incredible strength shown by babies, families and healthcare professionals every day.
How You Can Get Involved:
π Wear Green
Green is the colour of NICU Awareness Month. Whether it’s a green top, ribbon, badge or accessory, wearing green is a simple way to show your support and start conversations about neonatal care.
π’ Raise Awareness
Share our posts, talk about the realities of neonatal care, and help more people understand the challenges and triumphs that neonatal families experience.
π Make a Donation
Your support helps us continue providing vital services for families during one of the most difficult times of their lives. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Together, we can help ensure that neonatal families feel seen, understood and supported.
Join us this NICU Awareness Month as we celebrate the resilience of babies, the strength of families and the dedication of those who care for them.
