Father’s Day is often filled with cards, laughter and special family moments. But for some dads, the day looks very different. For fathers with babies in neonatal care, each day is shaped by uncertainty, resilience, and the quiet determination to keep everything together.
Many dads are carrying more than most people realise. They finish long shifts – whether in offices, on building sites or through the night and head straight to the hospital. Once there, they juggle supporting their partner’s recovery, trying to understand complex medical information, and simply being present for their baby. Behind that strength, however, is often overwhelming emotion.
Graeme shared in his Dad’s diary:
“A million things were rushing through my head, but I couldn’t ask a single question. I was just trying to keep it together—for her, for our baby—while everything felt completely overwhelming.”
He described the shock of those first moments:
“Everything was happening so fast. There were people everywhere, and we didn’t know what was going on. One minute we were together, the next our baby was taken away. We sat there in shock—not knowing what to say to each other. But no matter what, you just want to stay.”
At Tiny Lives, we’re here to support families through these incredibly challenging times. We offer practical help and emotional support designed to ensure dads don’t feel alone. From parent packs filled with essential items to make long days on the unit a little easier, to welcoming WhatsApp groups where families can connect and share experiences, we create spaces where support is always within reach. We also provide resources, guidance and a listening ear when everything feels overwhelming.
Our support includes:
Dad’s group chat – connecting fathers for peer support
Support on the unit – offering practical help during a baby’s stay on the unit
Discharge support – helping families transition from the unit to home
Self-referral counselling – providing professional emotional support
Parent–baby groups – bringing families together to meet, chat and learn
This Father’s Day, while many celebrate with cuddles and time together, we’re thinking of the dads whose arms are still waiting to hold their baby.
A donation of just £10 can help break down the barriers that make this time harder – supporting dads to stay close, stay strong, and stay connected to their baby when it matters most.
Your support helps turn stress into stillness, and difficult days into meaningful moments.
