Connecting you with other parents who have been through the Neonatal Unit.
As a Dad, you may have a completely different emotional experience to a Mam when your child has to spend time on the Unit. The Dad’s Team helps to address this and offers support in a friendly, informal environment.
The team is made up of Dads who have experienced life on the Unit, who will be chatting to and offering support to dads that are currently on the Neonatal Unit with their child. Meetings are very relaxed and all Dads are welcome. They also have a closed Facebook page for extra support and a mobile number, which you can call at any time – 07305869344 (please leave a message and one of the Dads Team volunteers will aim to get back to you within 24hrs).
Due to current circumstances, Dads Team meetings are currently via Zoom. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org for the link or more info.
Next Meeting: 22nd March 2021
The Bubbles Group is a support and developmental group facilitated by the Newcastle Community Nursing Team and the Central Community Family Hub, who host weekly sessions for Newcastle parents whose babies have been discharged from Ward 35 at the RVI. Currently, the Bubbles Group is online (Fridays, 10.30am – 11.30am) so has expanded it’s inclusion to any newly hospital-discharged parents and babies from the region. We have recently approved additional funding to Bubbles, and so hope to offer more support via this group once families are able to meet face-to-face again.
For more information please download this leaflet or email email@example.com. You can also sign up to the group by downloading the Bubbles Registration Form and returning it to Jacqui at the email address above.
We have supported the SCBU Dad’s Team to create Walk while you Wait, a new peer support system. It buddies up new Dads with an experienced Dad from the Team to meet for a walk in a local park or hospital grounds, whilst enjoying a coffee and a supportive, friendly chat with someone who has been through the Neonatal experience. Find out more here.
We know how hard it has been for new Mams being unable to meet up face-to-face with other Mams to chat about experiences and share valuable new Mam ‘hints and tips’. As the weather improves and restrictions lift, we want to give Ward 35 Mams the opportunity to meet up for a Riverside Buggy Walk with Tiny Lives staff and our Peer Supporters. Walks are limited to groups of 6 Mams plus babies to ensure we can keep socially-distanced whilst still able to chat. You can find out more here. Booking is essential so we know who is coming along, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’re currently working on a brand new Peer Support scheme just for Ward 35 Mams. Please watch this space for more information coming soon!
