Thomas’ Story

On Unit: 26/08/2020 – 15/09/2020
Gestation: 28 weeks and 3 days

Mam, Laura: I was transferred to RVI when I went into labour at 28 weeks and was absolutely terrified. I remember a Doctor from the Ward coming to explain to me what would likely happen when baby was born and I felt a lot more reassured and a little less scared. The Ward seemed so intimidating at first and we were so frightened, but the staff were absolutely amazing and answered all of our questions – and sat with me while I cried happy and sad tears at various points in our stay.

I hated leaving our son every day but I know he was cared for like he was their own and knew I could ring at any time day or night for updates. We will never be able to thank Ward 35 enough for the care and support they gave Thomas and our family, our story could’ve been a very different one had we not been lucky enough to have the RVI.

Thomas was transferred to our local hospital after 3 weeks and I was so sad to leave, but pleased he no longer needed that level of intensive care that they provided so brilliantly. Everyone from the Nurses, Drs, Physios, Feeding Team and more, worth their weight in gold.

The support we received from Tiny Lives was priceless, from helping us with parking costs, to books and emotional support, to physiotherapy, and everything else in between – I can’t imagine having to go through our journey again without Tiny Lives. Thomas still loves his Miniboo!
