Tiny Lives assists Preterm Birth Committee

House of Lords Preterm Birth Committee: Shaping the Future of Neonatal Care

In February 2024, the House of Lords Preterm Birth Committee launched a call for written evidence to investigate the prevention and consequences of preterm birth. This inquiry aimed to gather insights from organisations, healthcare professionals, and parents across the UK.

Tiny Lives was proud to contribute to the evidence, highlighting our collaboration with the Institute of Health Visiting. This partnership focuses on educating Health Visitors about the unique needs of neonatal families, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support beyond discharge.

The Committee’s final report presents a detailed summary of key findings and recommendations for the government and NHS England. It addresses both preventative measures and the long-term support required for families affected by preterm birth.

Following the report’s publication, Smallest Things, a neonatal charity, launched a campaign urging the Health and Social Care Secretary to implement the report’s recommendations. Tiny Lives fully supports this campaign, recognising the need for system-wide improvements to better support preterm babies and their families.
