Counselling for Discharged Ward 35 Parents

Tiny Lives is delighted to be able to offer self-referral counselling to discharged Ward 35 parents, to help them process their emotions following their experience with neonatal care.

The counselling is being offered in partnership with the North East Counselling Service, and parents can take part in 6 free sessions of individual or couples counselling. The service is self-referred, meaning that the parent does not need a medical referral to benefit from this additional support. Counselling can take place in person at NECs offices or virtually – whatever best suits you.

To refer, parents simply need to fill out a form, and a Tiny Lives staff member will be in touch to get the process started.

Jacqui Adams, Projects Officer at Tiny Lives said: “Often it isn’t until parents have gone home that they start to reflect on the journey they have had. This new counselling service is there to support parents once they’ve had time to process and feel that they could use someone to talk to about their experience. This can often be triggered by life events way down the line, such as their child starting school, or a future pregnancy. Any Ward 35 parent can refer to this service, no matter how long they have been discharged.”
