Buddy Group for Parents South of the River…..

Tiny Lives Buddy Group poster – south tyneside

Take a look below a mum has set up a buddy group for parents in South Tyneside.

My Name is Sharon McLeod and August 2013 we welcomed into the world our little miracle Edith.  After a pretty complicated pregnancy she was born at 27 weeks.  Edith had had growth restrictions throughout the pregnancy, I had been told that she was about 4 weeks behind in size, when she was born she weighed 530g (1lb 2oz). Edith had many ups and downs during her journey through Special Care but after 22 weeks on the unit we were eventualy allowed to bring her home in January 2014 (Yippee!!!!). We are just about approaching Edith’s 1st birthday and she is doing so well, she has overcame so much in her little life and we are very proud indeed.

Since being discharged we have been to the Buddy Group once or twice and I think it is a fantastic group with mums supporting each other because when you are discharged from the unit its not like we can all just go back to normallity and for some of us our children have additional needs and our lives will never be the same again. However we all know  how it feels to watch our children fight for their lives, they fight so hard and they don’t even know what they are fighting for. I feel that we are lucky to have our Buddy Group where we can offload our stresses and our anxieties with other mums/friends who understand just what we have gone through or maybe still going through (and we don’t have to explain the medical terms either). At the moment we have our Buddy Group at the RVI and i believe the next one is as far away as Darlington so I thought that we would benefit from one south of the river too. As of Monday 1st of September we will now hold a Buddy Group at St Johns Church Hall  in Hebburn, this group will run EVERY Monday from 1pm-3pm. It would be good to see some of our mums/dads and little ones for a catch up and a cuppa (and maybe a biscuit).

Please feel free to contact me on 07951142957 for more information.
