We understand that parents who have experienced life on the NICU may need support following their discharge, and Buddy Groups are an excellent way to reach out to other parents who have been in a similar situation.
RVI SCBU Buddy Group
The RVI – SCBU Buddy Group is made up of former Neonatal parents. It’s a kind and supportive environment within a closed group, and it is ran by the parents – not by Tiny Lives. You can request to join here.
SCBU Dads’ Team
Matt Cray, part of the Northern Neonatal Transport Service at the RVI, has recently established a dads group within the hospital, in order to offer unique support to dads who have a child on the unit.
A dad may have a completely different emotional experience to a mum when their child is born prematurely and has to spend time on the unit. The dads group helps to cater for this in a friendly, informal environment.
The team is made up of dads who have experienced life on the unit, who will be chatting to and offering support to dads that are currently on SCBU with their child. The dates of the next few meetings are:
2019 dates TBC – watch this space!
As usual, sessions will take place in the Fetal Medicine Seminar Room next to Ward 35, 6.30pm – 7.30pm. For more information please contact Matt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are a dad that would like to share your story about your time on the unit, please contact Matt or send an email to email@example.com.
They also have a closed Facebook page for extra support.
